about me

Hey! I’m Benjamin McCarthy, a passionate musician advocation for autism awareness hailing from Vancouver, Washington. My musical journey began at the age of seven when I first sat down at a piano. Over the years, my love for music has only grown, leading me to explore various instruments and genres.

I draw inspiration from a diverse array of artists, with groups like Metallica being my foremost influence. My musical palette also includes the heavy sounds of Deftones, System of a Down, Tool, Pantera. Beyond metal and rock, I appreciate the classic tunes of Marty Robbins, Conway Twitty, and Roy Clark, along with the iconic sounds of west coast hip hop.

My music education began at the Hammersmith Rock Institute in Vancouver, where I played from its opening until its closure. I then transitioned to the School of Rock in Portland, where I became a member of their house band. This experience allowed me to perform at renowned local venues such as Mississippi Studios, The Get Down, Star Theater, Mission Theater, Revolution Hall, Liberty Theater, and many more local venues, festivals and events.

In addition to performing, I have a strong passion for music production. I recorded and produced the local Portland hardcore band Teardown for their debut EP and their latest 2-track single, “Cigarette Burns.” I also collaborated with Teardown on a project called Tranq, blending hardcore influences with experimental elements. My solo work includes an EP of instrumentals created in GarageBand, showcasing my early compositions and ideas.

With a wide selection of gear and several industry connections, I am always exploring new sounds and pushing the boundaries of my musical capabilities. Notable figures in the music industry, such as Rob Flynn of Machine Head and Eddie Hermida of Suicide Silence, have found my journey inspiring, while Eugene Kostyuk of Jinjer has complimented my skills.
